The first grow dome of its size and kind in Detroit.
In July 2021, we were one of two grant winners nationwide to receive a 42-foot geodesic greenhouse grow dome from Growing Spaces, based out of Colorado. With the Growing Spaces team and the help of local volunteers and community members, we raised the dome in a combined two weeks. It sits on E. Vernor Hwy between Chene and Mt. Elliott, two minutes from Eastern Market, and anchors the on-site food distribution center.
Why the dome matters
The greenhouse extends our growing season into a year-round operation. Weather once limited us to April through October; now we can increase our produce capacity and supply fresh organic food to local businesses and residents in every season.
What the hybrid market will do
Our goal is to become a primary local source of produce in the Detroit area — a resource for grocery stores, restaurants, chefs, and residents. We grow, process, and package on site for local distribution. With the greenhouse complete, we're finishing construction on the on-site food distribution center that moves everything the dome grows out into the neighborhood.
