Growing fresh food where Detroit needs it most.
Peace Tree Parks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2015 to increase Metro Detroit residents' access to fresh organic produce by converting vacant land into community gardens.
Our Mission
Food access without gatekeepers.
Our two programs — Residential and Community — are designed to reach people in need regardless of race, age, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. Every garden doubles as a teaching space where we encourage residents to start growing on their own.
Most of our lots are acquired in partnership with the Detroit Land Bank Authority, turning long-vacant parcels into productive growing space for the neighborhoods around them.
Our approach
Grow. Teach. Share.
- Grow. We install raised beds, prepare soil, plant seedlings, and maintain gardens across three Detroit locations.
- Teach. Every install includes hands-on coaching so residents can manage their own beds, season after season.
- Share. Produce goes home with residents, to community fridges, and — soon — to local grocers and chefs from our E. Vernor greenhouse.
